Horse work
A day in the life of a horse worker involves feeding, filling water troughs, looking over and checking each horse, grooming, riding, checking and repairing fences, keeping the tack shed clean and organized, moving feed bags, helping put out hay when we are in hay season, and keeping the pasture dragged to allow for better grass growth. They also help doctor up any horse that may need it, weed eat fence lines, and help get the horses prepped for class that day.
Sara Bagshaw, Director
I was born and raised in Portland, TN, and a proud graduate of Highland Academy’s class of 2016. After graduating, I went on to obtain a Veterinarian Technician Assistant license as well as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician License. I am also a certified instructor through American Riding Instructor’s Association. I’ve grown up riding, taking lessons, and have a strong love for all things horses. I share a passion of introducing our students to the world of horses and all they have to offer. I teach mainly western riding presently with the intention to expand to include English in the future. My favorite part about my job is watching the confidence and strength grow in each student as they progress in riding, as well as the hard work and determination that go along with it. When I am not riding and working with horses, I enjoy boating, horse camping, canoeing, and simply being with my family and dogs.
